brotZeit - free school breakfast
Why a school breakfast is important - the brotZeit project in Bochum
An empty stomach makes it difficult to concentrate on lessons - and many children start the school day without breakfast. This is exactly where the brotZeit project comes in: At selected schools in Bochum, children receive a free, lovingly prepared breakfast before the start of lessons. The offer is aimed in particular at children who, for a variety of reasons, are not sufficiently nourished in the morning.
The brotZeit e. V. association was founded by the actress Uschi Glas, who has been committed to fair educational opportunities for years. The food for the breakfast is donated by the food retailer LIDL, which ensures consistently high quality.
In addition to healthy eating, the focus is also on the social aspect: senior citizens volunteer to accompany the breakfast and give the children an appreciative, calm start to the day. This not only improves their well-being, but also their ability to concentrate and the classroom atmosphere.
The support of brotZeit promotes equal opportunities in everyday school life - regardless of origin or social background. The city of Bochum coordinates the cooperation between the regional coordinator in Essen and the schools and supports the implementation on site.
