The child protection system in Bochum
Sharing responsibility
Child protection means protecting children and young people from danger - at home, at school and in their free time. In Bochum, the youth welfare office takes on this task with high priority. It acts in accordance with the statutory protection mandate (Section 8a SGB VIII) and works closely with schools, daycare centers, clubs and other institutions.
How does the protection system work?
The Bochum Youth Welfare Office has developed clear procedures to identify and correctly assess risks at an early stage. These procedures apply:
Internal for all employees of public youth welfare services
externally as orientation for independent providers and cooperation partners
The aim is to take swift, coordinated and effective action if there is a suspicion that a child's welfare is at risk.
Who is involved?
Child protection is a team effort. In addition to the youth welfare office, many other agencies are involved:

Schools and daycare centers
Doctors and physicians
Police and justice
Volunteers and advice centers
Everyone works according to common standards and with clear agreements.
