Data protection officer at public schools in Bochum
Public bodies that process personal data must appoint a data protection officer.
Its task is to protect individuals from having their rights unlawfully impaired by the processing of personal data by public bodies in order to ensure that they themselves can decide on the disclosure and use of their data (right to informational self-determination).
The NRW Data Protection Act contains the general requirements for the processing of personal data by public bodies in North Rhine-Westphalia. A key principle is that processing must be limited to the necessary scope and that data may only be processed for the purposes for which it was collected. The right of data subjects to information, correction, blocking and deletion is also essential.
Section 120 of the NRW Education Act and the ordinances VO-DV I and VO-DV II contain comprehensive provisions on the processing of personal data in schools specifically for schools.
