Bochum Parental Support Network

Strengthening families, enabling participation

The Bochum Parent Support Network (BNE) supports (new) immigrant and refugee families with their arrival and integration in Bochum. The aim is to facilitate access to education, advice and social participation - directly on site, in the city districts. The network is an association of committed organizations and institutions.

What does the network do?

Parent mentors work close to home in neighborhoods and facilities. They actively seek out families, build trust and support them individually. The teams are intercultural, which facilitates access and enables culturally sensitive work.
The network offers practical support on topics such as

  • Health and exercise

  • Digital media competence

  • Strengthening family cohesion

  • Parental competence and participation in education

  • Access to information and educational opportunities

The services are based on the needs of the families and are adapted flexibly.

Why is this important?

Many families face challenges: Language barriers, lack of information or uncertainties in the education system. The network helps to break down these barriers - through personal contact, comprehensible information and specific offers.

What are the benefits for families?

  • Reliable contact persons

  • Individual support

  • Better orientation in everyday life

  • More participation and co-design
