Cultural projects
Culture and School
The “Culture and Schools” program supports artistic projects in all types of schools—alternative schools receive funding directly from the Arnsberg District Government. Schools are encouraged to develop project proposals that foster children’s creativity and complement academic learning with complementary and contrasting elements. Applications, in the form of a project outline, must be submitted via kultur.web (KULTUR.web login) by March 31 of each year. A panel of experts assesses whether a project is eligible for funding. The project period spans one school year. Currently, artists receive 3,300 euros for 40 sessions of 90 minutes each, plus travel and project-related material expenses of up to 900 euros per project.

What are you looking for—is this the right place?
In the "Kulturrucksack NRW" Program Children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 14 are given the opportunity to explore art and culture and, above all, to get creative themselves: dancing, making music, acting, writing, shooting short films, painting, and much more are all possible. Each year, around 20 projects are funded and carried out in Bochum.
These activities take place, for example, at youth centers and clubs, in theaters, or at museums. They can be short workshops or longer projects, vacation programs, or special field trips.
What information is important in this regard?
The following key conditions for funding from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia must be observed:
• Eligible for funding are new projects or existing projects that are being significantly further developed in line with the Kulturrucksack philosophy. Information and suggestions regarding the NRW program can be found at www.kulturrucksack.nrw.de available.
• The programs should be free of charge or significantly discounted for the participating target group.
• The focus is on engaging formats and methods that allow children and youth to be creative on their own.
• Passive activities should always be combined with a creative contribution from the participants. In the case of introductory or trial activities for specific target groups, it should be clear how the passive activity is conceptually designed to support the participants’ own creative work.
• School-based, curriculum-related projects are not eligible for funding under the Kulturrucksack NRW program. Those wishing to carry out a cultural school project are referred to the state program “Culture and School.” For more details, see https://kultur-und-schule.de can be found.
• The projects must be led by qualified artists and cultural educators. The project leaders must possess the appropriate professional expertise; this is a mandatory requirement. The qualifications of the relevant professionals must be specified in the application and verified in writing upon request. Experience in carrying out projects with children and youth is also a requirement.
After a project has been completed, a statement of funds used must be submitted.
Organizations interested in implementing a project are encouraged to seek advice from the Municipal Integration Center. Appointments can be scheduled.
