School development planning

As a school authority, the city of Bochum is obliged under the German Schools Act to carry out school development planning. The results of this planning are presented in school development plans, which are divided into sub-plans for the different types of schools: Grundschulen, Förderschulen, secondary schools and Berufskollegs including Weiterbildungskollegs.

School building guidelines of the city of Bochum

The city of Bochum has investigated which standards need to be defined for schools in order to ensure a contemporary supply of school space. This includes requirements for the size, number and pedagogical concepts of school spaces as well as the objectives of the Bochum Strategie.

The competence "Talent factory in the Ruhr region" identifies the following priorities for "Outstanding school education":

  • Promotion of a diverse, distinctive and high-quality school education

  • Increased support for a high level of inclusion in classes and learning groups

  • Expansion and promotion of comprehensive, flexible and reliable childcare for school children

  • Ensuring adequate infrastructural and educational resources

Based on these points, the School building guidelines which serves as a guide for new buildings and the expansion of existing schools in Bochum.
