The School Administration Office of the City of Bochum is the central organizational unit for all administrative, infrastructural and school organization tasks. It ensures that schools are not only places of learning, but also well-functioning facilities - with clear structures, reliable equipment and a strong focus on service.
Tasks of the school administration office
The department is the school authority for a total of 81 schools in Bochum - including 43 Grundschulen, 2 Hauptschulen, 5 Realschulen, 2 Sekundarschulen, 5 Gesamtschulen, 10 Gymnasien, 5 Berufskollegs, 1 Weiterbildungskolleg, 7 Förderschulen and 1 Klinikschule. It is ensured that these schools have the necessary resources, rooms and framework conditions.
The central tasks include:
Personnel and financial management:
The office plans and manages non-educational staff positions, handles personnel matters and provides budget funds. Finances are monitored and the appropriate use of funds is ensured.Objective management:
This includes the provision of teaching materials, the implementation of free learning resources and the procurement of furniture, technology and other equipment.Organization and school development planning:
Demographic developments are analyzed, school locations are planned and school development measures are implemented. The aim is to provide schools that are sustainable and close to home.Digitization:
The IT Service Schools department sets up digital infrastructures, implements media development plans and supports schools with technical equipment.School transportation:
The office organizes transport services, processes applications for school travel passes (e.g. DeutschlandTicket Schule) and coordinates school transport in close cooperation with schools and transport companies.School supervision and counseling:
As part of the school administration office, the school authority is responsible for primary, secondary modern and Förderschulen. It assumes the tasks of lower-level school supervision and supports schools in the implementation of educational goals. The Arnsberg district government is responsible for technical supervision.
Structure of the office
The School Administration Office (City Office 40) is divided into two main departments:
Education department (40/1):
Responsible for school development planning, education networks, the regional education office, Family elementary school centersAll-day offers, Student BAföG and the school office.
Administration department (40/2):
Responsible for finance, procurement, school transport, occupational health and safety, IT services, personnel, organization and school secretariats. Major projects in the area of digitalization are also managed here.
A staff unit for data-based municipal education management supports the strategic further development of educational provision and ensures transparency and information with the school portal.

Parents can find contacts for questions about School enrollment, School choiceparticipation, school trips or lunchtime meals.
Pupils benefit from well-functioning processes, safe routes to school and well-equipped learning facilities.
Teachers and school management receive support on extracurricular matters and school IT.
